The C.O.P.S. National Board

The C.O.P.S. National Board is composed of 10 voting members and 2 non-voting members.  Voting members include the National President, the Immediate Past President, and 8 Regional Trustees. 

Non-voting members are the Executive Director and the National Chapter Coordinator.  The National President and the 8 Trustees are elected each May at the May 12 board meeting. 

To run for office, a candidate must be a law enforcement survivor and must have passed the one-year anniversary of their officer's death.   Board members develop policy, govern the organization, and provide peer-support and information about C.O.P.S. programs and services.  All Board Members can be reached through the C.O.P.S. National Office.

National President

C.O.P.S. National President position is held by Linda Moon Gregory of Germantown, TN.  Linda is a surviving sibling of Jacksonville Sheriff’s Officer James Moon, EOW 9/27/71.  Linda has served on the board as secretary and Chapter President of the West Tennessee C.O.P.S. for 6 years.  She is married to John who is also active in C.O.P.S. and she has two sons.

Immediate Past President

Mrs. Jean Hill, surviving mother of Harris County (TX) Deputy Barry Hill, End of Watch 12/4/00, will assume the position of Immediate Past President following the resignation of  Jennifer Thacker, who now joins the C.O.P.S. National staff as the Director of National Outreach. Jean is a resident of Houston, TX, and has served as Immediate Past President 2008-2009, National President from 2006-2008, and Mountain Region Trustee 2004-2006.  jean_hill@nationalcops.org

 

Regional Trustees

Northeast Region

Retired Chief Paul Armitage, Middleton, MA, was elected to the Northeast Trustee position in 2008 and is serving his third term.  Paul lost his close friend and co-worker in a line of duty incident on 7/10/97.  Paul has been a long-time mentor with the C.O.P.S. Kids program during National Police Week.  He looks forward to dealing with survivors in the States of Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York and New Jersey and hopes to open more doors for C.O.P.S. with agency administrators nationwide. paul_armitage@nationalcops.org

 

Northern Seaboard Region

The new Northern Seaboard Region Trustee is Richard Cheney. Richard is the surviving father of Virginia State Trooper Jessica Jean Cheney, End of Watch January 17, 1998.  Richard will represent C.O.P.S. in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, District of Columbia, and West Virginia. richard_cheney@nationalcops.org

 

Southern Seaboard Region

Trina Scott is the surviving spouse of Officer David Scott, Clarksville (TN) Police Department, EOW 6/7/2002.  Trina has served as President of Middle and East Tennessee C.O.P.S. since November 2003.  She is a medical transcriptionist, is raising 3 daughters.  Her C.O.P.S.’ service area covers the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. trina_scott@nationalcops.org

 

Great Lakes Region

Mark Hannan was recently appointed Great Lakes Trustee.  Mark looks forward to serving survivors in the states of Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana. mark_hannan@nationalcops.org

 

Plains Region

Serving survivors of Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Wyoming, and Colorado. This position is currently open.  For assistance in these states, please contact Madeline Neumann at:

Gulf Region

Emilio J. Miyares joined C.O.P.S. on November 6, 1986, when his father Emilio F. Miyares, was killed.  Since joining C.O.P.S., he has participated in many programs and served as a mentor since 2002 at C.O.P.S. Kids and Outward Bound.  He has served as Treasurer of South Florida C.O.P.S. since 2003.  Emilio will be working with survivors and law enforcement agencies in Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, Florida, Puerto Rico and Caribbean Territories. emilio_miyares@nationalcops.org

 

Mountain Region

Cathy Hill became a survivor on December 4, 2000, when husband, Harris County (TX) Deputy Barry Hill, was killed in the line of duty.  She is a native Texan, with two daughters, a son-in-law, and a new grandson.  Cathy is committed and ready to help those who follow in her footsteps.  Cathy will be working in the states of Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas.  cathy_hill@nationalcops.org

 

Pacific Region

The Pacific Region Trustee position is held by Andy Powell, surviving in-law of Deputy Eric Thach, Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, EOW 10/8/99.  Andy, a resident of Temecula, CA, will be serving C.O.P.S.’ interests in the states of California, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana and the Mariana Islands.  Andy has been the President of Southern Cal C.O.P.S. and taken a leadership role at the annual In-Laws Retreat.  This is his third year in this position. andy_powell@nationalcops.org

 

Non-Voting Board Members

Chief Executive Officer

Mariah Hughes is the Chief Executive Officer to oversee the daily business of C.O.P.S.  Since 2002, Mariah has served on the Executive Management Team as Director of Sales and Development for the YMCA Trout Lodge and Camp Lakewood, a unique branch of the YMCA of Greater St. Louis. During her eight years with Trout Lodge and Camp Lakewood, changes she implemented resulted in significantly expanded use of the facility’s outdoor education resources.  Mariah also developed and found funding for ambitious new programs that included an award-winning nature center and a trap and skeet range designed to introduce beginners to shooting sports.  Contact Mariah.

 

National Chapter Coordinator

Madeline Neumann.  The Chapter Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the functioning of C.O.P.S. 48 chapters nationwide.  She helps new chapters organize and assists established C.O.P.S. Chapters throughout the year with their administrative chores.  The Chapter Coordinator also authors the Chapter Connection, a newsletter to chapters from the National Office.  Madeline Neumann, a survivor herself, is very supportive of her work with C.O.P.S.  Madeline can be reached at madeline_neumann@nationalcops.org
